Fans Get Sneak Peek of the Final “Downton Abbey” Season Premiere

Last Updated by Mary Riker on

PENSACOLA, Fla., November 30, 2015—“Downton Abbey” returns to PBS for the sixth and final season beginning Jan. 3; however, local fans need not wait for the televised premiere. WSRE will show the first hour of the “Downton Abbey” Season 6 premiere during a free preview screening on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio. Guests will enjoy light refreshments and door prize drawings along with the much anticipated return of Crawley household elites and domestics on the Amos big screen. Admission is free, and guests are encouraged to dress in costume as “Downton Abbey” characters.

In March, co-producers Carnival Films and MASTERPIECE announced that Season 6 would be the show’s last. “We wanted to close the doors of ‘Downton Abbey’ when it felt right and natural for the storylines to come together and when the show was still being enjoyed so much by its fans. We can promise a final season full of all the usual drama and intrigue, but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up,” said Gareth Neame, executive producer.

A runaway hit since it debuted on PBS in 2011, “Downton Abbey” is widely credited with reigniting American viewers’ passion for British drama. It is the top PBS drama of all time, the most popular series in MASTERPIECE’s 44-year history, and one of the most-watched dramas on American television, frequently beating the competition in its Sunday night time slot.

In its wake, Sunday nights on WSRE will continue to offer fans a full slate of popular British dramas like “Sherlock,” “Poldark,” “Home Fires” and “Indian Summers.”

“WSRE has been proud to be home to ‘Downton Abbey’ in our community and, like our fellow ‘Downton’ fans, we can hardly wait to know what will happen to the Crawley household as the series concludes,” said Sandy Cesaretti Ray, WSRE general manager.

Local sponsors and program underwriters for “Downtown Abbey” on WSRE are Gulf Power Company, Sacred Heart Health System and TLC Caregivers. Preview screening event details are available at wsre.org/DowntonAbbey.
