Local talk show hosts Vietnam War veteran and author Tim O’Brien - WSRE announces new episodes of “Conversations with Jeff Weeks”
Pensacola, FL, October 17, 2014—“The Things They Carried” author Tim O’Brien will appear on WSRE’s “Conversations with Jeff Weeks” airing Thursday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, November 16 at 11 a.m. The program is also streaming at wsre.org/conversations.
“The Things They Carried” is currently the featured title for Pensacola’s “The Big Read” sponsored by the West Florida Library. The book is a critically acclaimed collection of short stories about a platoon of American soldiers in the Vietnam War, based on his own experiences in the 23rd Infantry Division, 3rd Platoon.
First published in 1990, the book has won numerous awards, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and is considered one of the most notable pieces of literature about the Vietnam War. This year, “The Things They Carried” was added to Amazon.com’s list of 100 Books to Read in a Lifetime.
“This is a powerful interview about the author’s experiences as a soldier in Vietnam, and we are pleased to have had him in the studio in time to premiere this program in observance of Veteran’s Day,” said Executive Producer Jill Hubbs.
Other new episodes of “Conversations with Jeff Weeks” to debut in November will feature celebrity chefs Todd Richards and Duane Nutter of Atlanta, who recently visited Pensacola for WSRE’s Wine and Food Classic fundraiser. Those new episodes will premiere November 6 and November 20 respectively.
