Tickets for WSRE’s Annual Wine & Food Classic Tasting and 50th Anniversary Gala are now on sale

WSRE Wine & Food Classic to celebrate milestone anniversary with three events Oct. 20–22

PENSACOLA, Fla., August 31, 2017―Tickets for the annual WSRE Wine & Food Classic are now on sale at wsre.org/wineandfood. This year’s event will be a celebration of the public television station’s 50th anniversary at the Hilton Pensacola Beach with a Sixties themed walkabout tasting on Friday, Oct. 20 and a black tie gala on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Channel 23 began broadcasting as WSRE, from what was then Pensacola Junior College, in 1967. Guests at Friday’s event, sponsored in part by Gulf Power Company, are encouraged to dress in fashions from the era—think tie-dye, bell-bottoms and go-go boots.

Boogie Inc. will be spinning classic tunes from the 1960s and 70s, while local chefs compete for votes and the honor of winning an Earl Peyroux Culinary Legacy Award. The wine selection will be presented by Republic National Distributing.

Admission is $50 per person for Friday’s “Tastes Through the Decades” event, which will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Hilton’s beachside lawn.

The “Milestones & Memories” 50th anniversary gala will be held Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the hotel ballroom. Admission is $175 per person.

Those attending this black tie affair will enjoy a dinner menu of recipes from PBS celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich as prepared by celebrated Pensacola chefs, Dan Dunn, Irv Miller and Gus Silivos.

Bastianich—a culinary industry giant and host of “Lidia’s Kitchen”—will be among the distinguished guests in attendance, along with PBS President/CEO Paula Kerger and Corporation for Public Broadcasting President/CEO Patricia Harrison.

This will be an evening of special presentations, wining, dining and dancing to music performed by The Tip-Tops Show Band. Wines from the Napa Valley vineyards of Silver Oak Cellars will be featured.

WSRE’s Wine & Food weekend will wrap up with a book signing and wine tasting event on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at So Gourmet & Kitchenry in downtown Pensacola. This event is hosted by Wine & Food Classic presenting sponsor, A Bodacious Family of Shops, and guests will have the opportunity to meet Chef Lidia Bastianich while sampling Silver Oak wines.

Bastianich will be signing her brand new cookbook, “Celebrate Like an Italian” (Knopf), with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of books and wine benefitting the WSRE-TV Foundation in support of the station’s programming and educational services.

Admission to the Sunday event is free; however, reservations are requested and can be made at wsre.org/wineandfood.
