WSRE Visits Air Force Armament Museum “In Your Own Backyard”
PENSACOLA, Fla., June 8, 2015 – A new episode of WSRE’s local program, “In Your Own Backyard,” takes viewers on a tour of the Air Force Armament Museum near Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa County. The show premieres Thursday, July 16 at 7 p.m. with an encore presentation at midnight.
The nation’s only museum dedicated to Air Force armament displays a comprehensive history of airborne weaponry and combat aircraft. The museum also highlights the history of Eglin Air Force Base, the world’s largest military complex with a land range of more than 700 square miles and another 120,000 square miles of air space over the Gulf of Mexico. Hosting many ceremonial activities and memorial events, the facility serves as a gathering place for the armed forces community, as well.
“In Your Own Backyard” precedes “Conversations with Jeff Weeks," which airs at 7:30 p.m. with guest Lt. Col. Daniel Gade. Currently an assistant professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Gade is a decorated military officer, wounded in the line of duty, whose career has taken him from Iraq to the White House where he served as a policy advisor to President George W. Bush. On Thursday’s show, he shares his viewpoint on how the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs should approach caring for wounded veterans by encouraging jobs and entrepreneurship.
“In Your Own Backyard” is hosted by Sherri Hemminghaus Weeks and spotlights unique events and attractions of local interest. WSRE’s TV schedule can be viewed at wsre.org.
