WSRE’s Wine and Food Classic announces Habaka in concert

Pensacola, FL, October 7, 2014—As part of the 26th Annual Wine and Food Classic, WSRE and Gulf Power will present Habaka Kay Foster Jackson in concert along with the Grand Bounty Reception and a live auction in the Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio on Saturday, October 18. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m.; the show begins at 8 p.m. 

Irv Miller of Jackson’s Steakhouse is the featured chef for the reception. Collier Merrill, restaurateur with the Great Southern Restaurant Group, will serve as emcee and auctioneer.

Habaka Kay Foster Jackson, also known by the one name—Habaka, is an international recording artist with Southern roots who performs extensively in Europe with a love of music in her blood. Born in Nashville, Habaka is the daughter of Melvin Jackson, who played saxophone for B.B. King, and Mary Ann Jackson, a jazz vocalist and dancer who traveled in bands that included Elvis Presley.

According to All About Jazz magazine, “Habaka Kay Foster Jackson reveals the story behind the songs and commits to recalling the path and history of several of the greatest vocalists of all time: Ella Fitzgerald, Cassandra Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Etta James, Chaka Khan, Mahalia Jackson just to name a few, and Habaka is quickly making a name for herself as one of the most sensitive yet demanding voices on the jazz scene today. 

This year’s three-pronged “Bounty & Barrel” Wine & Food Classic weekend also includes the Southern Bounty Tasting in Downtown Pensacola on Saturday, October 18, and the Biscuits ‘n Bubbly Brunch at the Hilton Pensacola Beach Gulf Front on Sunday, October 19.

The Southern Bounty Tasting offers sampling of culinary creations by popular local and guest celebrity chefs and award-winning wines from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Commendencia Slip, south of Main Street. Celebrated chefs Kevin Gillespie, Todd Richards and Duane Nutter, all from the Atlanta area, will participate in cooking demonstrations, and Gillespie will be signing copies of his cookbook, Fire in My Belly. Presenting sponsors for the Southern Bounty Tasting are The Bodacious Olive and So Gourmet.

The Biscuits ‘n Bubbly Brunch on Sunday will be prepared by Chef Dan Dunn of H2O Asian Cajun Grill and served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A variety of award-winning wines, presented by Republic National Distributing Company, will be served throughout the weekend of Wine and Food Classic events.

Tickets for all three events are on sale at wsre.org/WineandFood. Tickets for Saturday’s Southern Bounty Tasting are also available for purchase at The Bodacious Olive, 407 South Palafox Street, and at the Hilton on Pensacola Beach. Admission prices are $65 for the Southern Bounty Tasting, $100 for the Grand Bounty Reception and Habaka concert, and $75 for the Biscuits ‘n Bubbly Brunch.
