Students, schools take swing at Scoop's Reading Challenge from Pensacola News Journal, pnj.com
Congratulations to last week's winners, randomly selected from the teachers and students who have posted messages at the Scoop's Reading Challenge blog at wsre.org.
Chloe, a 1st grade student at Cordova Park Elementary, wins a selection of children's literature, including Curious George, Arthur and Reading Rainbow books. Chloe wrote about some of the books she has been reading as part of the challenge, and what happened in the stories. WSRE & The Pelicans send special thanks to her teacher, Pam Jones, who encouraged her students to post messages.
And congratulations to Myrtle Grove Elementary Kindergarten teacher, Karen Townley, who was randomly selected among last week's bloggers. Karen wins a gift basket with a Pensacola Pelicans beach towel, a set of children's books for her classroom, and PBS goodies including Elmo!
There will be great prizes awarded at the end of this week as well, including a color printer, so get busy on those keyboards! This week we will be looking for posts from teachers telling us the creative ways you are using this program in your classrooms. We are hoping to hear from more students, sharing what they've read and what they are learning. And we're hoping to hear from some parents as well.
Many, many thanks to all of the teachers who have gone the extra miles for their students by participating in this program. We are thinking about you and your students as FCAT testing begins. Scoop & The PBS Kids know that your students are going to "hit a home run" with the FCAT testing!

Taking part in Scoop's Reading Challenge provides an opportunity for students to expand their literary horizons beyond the classroom. This incentive-based program is free to your school and is easily adaptable for any curriculum or grade level.
The 2008 Scoop’s Reading Challenge is scheduled to take place
March 5 - April 16, 2008
Why participate in Scoop’s Reading Challenge?
To help encourage continued post-FCAT reading with your students in a fun way. Goals may include reading comprehension, number of pages read, number of books read or AR Points to name a few...creativity is encouraged!
How does Scoop’s Reading Challenge work?
The program is set up on a "base" system, and each “base” represents a reading goal set by the teacher. For each base a student advances to, he or she will earn a ticket to a Pelicans baseball game. Each student may earn up to four (4) ticket vouchers!!! As an added incentive, each teacher will select three All-Star Readers (based on any criteria you choose) to receive a free membership into the 2008 Pelicans Kids Club!
