In its 27th year, the WSRE Wine & Food Classic is the granddaddy of local foodie events. This year’s affair, themed Savor & Surf Southern, will begin with the annual walkabout tasting on Friday, October 16. The following weekend, PBS celebrity Chef John Besh will be WSRE’s honored guest for an afternoon book signing followed by a fundraising dinner on Sunday, October 25.
The Grand Southern Tasting on October 16 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. will feature the gourmet creations of 22 local top chefs and fine wines provided by longtime event sponsor, Republic National Distributing Company. Pass the time with friends, enjoying music by Uptown Trio while you “surf” the chefs’ signature dishes and vote for your favorites in three categories—Savory Gulf Coast Seafood, Big Easy Southern Flavors, and Smokin’ Hot Beach Grillin’— and for the people’s choice Earl Peyroux Culinary Legacy Award winner.
As part of his cookbook launch for Besh Big Easy, Chef Besh will greet fans and sign books at SoGourmet in downtown Pensacola from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on October 25. Admission is free, and proceeds from book sales will be donated to the WSRE-TV Foundation. That evening, Jackson’s Steakhouse will host an intimate "Big Easy" VIP dinner presented by Chef Besh.

Proceeds from all events benefit the mission of WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast, delivering quality television programs and educational outreach services for learners of all ages in Northwest Florida and South Alabama.
