“RALLY” is produced by WSRE in cooperation with both the League of Women Voters of Okaloosa & Walton Counties and the League of Women Voters Pensacola Bay Area. The purpose of “RALLY” is to give the Northwest Florida community of viewers an unbiased look at the candidates and an opportunity to hear each candidate’s responses to questions on current issues. WSRE provides the broadcast as a public service and encourages all citizens to vote.
Mollye Barrows is the producer and will co-host the programs with WUWF’s Sandra Averhart.
The “RALLY 2018” broadcasts for the upcoming primary election in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties have been scheduled, starting at 7pm:
Monday, Aug 20: U.S. Congressional District 1 and Florida House Districts 1 and 2;
Tuesday, Aug 21: School Board Districts 1, 2 and 3 (Escambia) and School Board Districts 1, 3, and 5 (Santa Rosa and Okaloosa);
Wednesday, Aug 22: City of Pensacola Mayor and County Commissioner Districts 2 and 4 (Escambia and Santa Rosa).
A second “RALLY” candidate forum will air Oct. 29–30 for the general election and the races will include U.S. Congressional District 1; Florida House Districts 1, 3 and 4; County Commissioner District 2 (Escambia and Santa Rosa); and City of Pensacola Mayor.
In an effort to be fair to candidates, and in compliance with federal election laws as they apply to federal races, a set of objective criteria are established. Candidates are required to satisfy the criteria in order to receive an invitation to appear on “RALLY.”
To participate in the primary election broadcast, each candidate must respond before 5pm CST on Thursday, August 2. The criteria deadline for the general election broadcast is 5pm CST on Friday, October 12. Candidates must demonstrate satisfaction of the criteria via email to Kasey Jones at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As stated in the criteria, WSRE reserves the right not to cover particular political races and, notwithstanding its having invited a candidate or candidates to appear, WSRE reserves the right to cancel any scheduled program.
