Actress and Pensacola Native Katy Mixon on the next Conversations with Jeff Weeks

WSRE’s “Conversations with Jeff Weeks” features actress Katy Mixon on Thursday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Mixon, a Pensacola native, currently co-stars on the CBS hit sitcom “Mike and Molly” as Victoria Flynn.

Mixon talks with Jeff about her love for the craft of acting as she shares her story of moving from local theatre to Hollywood and the challenges of an acting career including overcoming rejection. Mixon is a 2003 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s Conservatory of Drama.

Mixon’s most notable roles have included playing middle-school teacher April Buchanon in HBO’s “East Bound and Down;” a recurring role as “Betsy” on the hit sitcom “Two and a Half Men” starring Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer; and appearances in feature films “Four Christmases” opposite Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn and “All About Steve” starring Sandra Bullock. Mixon can next be seen in the upcoming films “Take Shelter” and “Soul Ties.”

“Conversations with Jeff Weeks” airs as part of WSRE’s new all-local evening programming block, Explore More Thursdays. The new Thursday night lineup airs 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and also features new series “In Your Own Backyard” hosted by Sherri Hemminghaus Weeks, locally produced documentaries and performing arts programs.

In addition to “Conversations with Jeff Weeks,” the Nov. 24 local Thursday night lineup includes a look into Arcadia Mill on “In Your Own Backyard” at 7 p.m., the “Lighthouses of the Gulf Coast” documentary beginning at 8 p.m. and at 9 p.m. “Ashley Brown in Concert: Call Me Irresponsible.”
