WSRE To Air “Inside Healthcare: Medical Technology”
Watch WSRE on Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. for “Inside Healthcare: Medical Technology”, the third in a series of four “Inside Healthcare” public town hall meetings taped at WSRE’s Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio. The show will also air Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
America’smedical technology ranks with the best in the world. Americans have pioneered some of the boldest and most promising cancer treatments, lifesaving surgical procedures, and pharmacological breakthroughs. However, medical technology is expensive and contributes to rising healthcare costs. An expert panel of guests will explore medical technology, its costs, and what’s available in our area.
The program will also showcase local examples of medical technology. Watch as surgeons from Baptist and West Florida Hospitals demonstrate how robotic surgery is done using the da Vinci Surgical System. Discover how patients benefit from using the da Vinci Surgical System when compared with traditional surgical techniques.
In another video insert, Inside Healthcare visits the new Sacred Heart Cancer Center on Sacred Heart Hospital’s Pensacola campus. The 95,000 square-foot facility offers medical technology and support services under one roof to diagnose and treat cancer.
The program’s panel of experts includes:
William Bailey, M.D., F.A.C.S., Thoracic Surgeon, Cardiology Consultants
Cyd Cadena, R.N., M.S.N., Vice President, Clinical Services, Baptist Hospital
Amanda Gilmore, Ph.D., Associate Director, Xcenda

The “Inside Healthcare” project, funded by a grant from the Kugelman Foundation, features multiple components — free, open to the public town hall meetings giving citizens the opportunity to ask questions and weigh in on issues affecting them; a TV series produced from the town hall meetings; and a comprehensive website with links to local and national resources. “Health care is a major concern for the people of our area,” states WSRE General Manager Sandy Cesaretti Ray. “WSRE’s Community Health Initiative will identify and address those critical issues to help the people of the Gulf Coast be better equipped with the knowledge and tools to manage their own health. WSRE is pleased to serve as the conduit for this vital information and resources through the power of television.”
