WSRE Offers Resources to Parents and Teachers Kids Have Questions About the Oil Spill and WSRE Wants to Help

Children have questions too. WSRE, PBS on the Gulf Coast, has created a web page of resources to provide parents and teachers with information they can use to help children understand the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Crisis. Visit the Teachers, Parents and Kids Section on wsre.org/OilSpill for special information including terminology that kids are hearing from their parents, teachers, and news sources; and links and information to help kids understand the science and environmental concerns behind an oil spill.

“Children hear the adults in their lives discuss the oil spill and its impact on our beaches, our seafood, and our way of life on the Gulf Coast,” says Jill Hubbs, WSRE Director of Education and Outreach. “When adults seem distressed, kids can get scared too. Information helps alleviate their fears. Kids have questions, and WSRE’s PBS Kids Programming Resources provide a way to help parents and teachers answer those questions in a way that reassures the children and shines the light on the educational opportunities of this terrible event.” Visit wsre.org/OilSpill and click on “Teachers, Parents & Kids” to access the information.
